Our history

FOREX was started in 1965 by travel agent Rolf Friberg when he took over the currency office from SJ at the Central Station in Stockholm. Selling currency to travel agency customers was a natural step for him. The growing business was later named FOREX and until the early 1990s was the only one that, alongside the banks, had permission from Sveriges Riksbank to trade in foreign exchange.

Almost as natural was the step to become a bank in 2003 when the company was granted permission to conduct banking operations and became FOREX Bank. In May 2021, after 17 years as a bank, the majority of deposits and lending were transferred to ICA Bank. FOREX Bank became FOREX again. We are now investing in strengthening our position as the Nordic market leader in travel currency and also offering other services and products related to travel – one of the Nordic residents' most important interests. We will therefore continue with travel currency and FOREX Credit Card.
